Hey guys, I'm the new admin for a counseling group and also a newbie to phone systems. We've got a DXP system with Execumail 6.5 for vm.
Now the issue is with the voicemail system. It will allow you to leave messages, but when you call vmail to play back the messages it no longer asks for your passcode. Instead it sits quietly for about 5 seconds and then plays "I'm sorry, I did not hear your selection.. please re-enter." However, if you punch in your passcode (unprompted) after this message it will proceed to your box and play back the messages. Any idea how I can get the passcode prompt working again? Thanks in advance.

Execumail has been around for quite a while. It might need some maintenance, such as a disk defragmentation. Fragmented disks can cause delays of prompts / greetings, among other strange behaviors.

Yeah and initially on the banner screen it did say I needed to perform disk maintenance. We backed up the whole disk and used the utilities and now that error has cleared. The problem persists though.
Everyone I've talked to seemed to recommend replacing the system, and it is worth mentioning that the closet that hosts our phone system has had some water damage in recent weeks. I'm beginning to think it also damaged the equipment because of the strange issues here. Such as picking up the phone and not getting dial-tone, instead you get static or a fax line. This happens to incoming calls as well and seems to be completely random. I realize that's a separate issue from the voicemail, but they're all in that closet and plugged into the same UPS.
Can anyone recommend a good replacement for our outdated Execumail 6.5 that will work with our Comdial DXP? Thanks again.

Hard to beat a Key Voice Corporate Office (DOS) or Interchange (Windows) for operation with a Comdial switch.

Guys, we are still struggling with this... talked to our distributor/support folks and we need to get more info off of the system in order to tell exactly what parts and peices we may need to get Interchange to work... I am assuming that we need to take the system down and pull the cards to see what all is in it, and get the s/w revision of the software in the DXP to go any further with this?

Are you looking for bells and whistles or just message deposit? Like RBF said a Keyvoice DOS machine would be suffice for a standard application. If you wanted to go alittle more advanced in the future (ie: Unified messaging) a Interchange would be the way to go.Also both of these machines will migrate to a new PBX platform easily if it gets replaced in the future. You dont have to pull cards. Log in via VMMI and you will get all that info. (cards, sw revision, etc)

unless it's pre VMMI which began at level 10a - I would think any dealer worth doing business with would come out and verify all that stuff themselves. I hope your company is not expecting someone without a background in these systems to install and set it up. If they are, good luck.

Mark makes a few good points. If you are still running Execumail chances are you are pre-common code (VMMI) software. Is sounds like a prompt may be missing if you put in the password during silence and you get into the box. I am also confused, your profile states you are a Comdial Dealer.

I will clear the confusion... I am a comdial dealer. However, a very new one. I will be the first to admit, I have never installed or managed an Interchange system, but do have access to all the resources on CCC, etc. I would like to get this client into unified messaging, as I have several Windows 2003 servers in their Active Directory Domain and 1 Exchange Server. We manage several DXP systems, but most have Key Voice, but the options with Interchange are overwhelming if you are not starting from scratch with a new system. I will check cards, revisions, etc. Thanks for your help.

Can anyone recommend a good replacement for our outdated Execumail 6.5 that will work with our Comdial DXP? This does not sound to me like the information matches up. Something doesn't pass the smell test here. Forgive the stupid question, but how can it start out as your (administrator for counseling group) system, one which you sound totally green on (and new to telecom in general, from your initial comments), and then turn out to be for "your customer", where you are now the Comdial dealer? We all have shorter memories as we get older, but a simple scroll up the page shows me that your recent response does not seem to match up with your initial posts. What gives? Justin
