We recently had a new service tech come out to work on our phone system after our voicemail card died. Since the company we had previously used was very difficult to deal with I asked this guy to fix a few little problems we had with our phones. One thing was the caller id not showing up on some of the sets. He said the problem was that they weren't set to ring (as I have seen on this board now) and he made some programming changes. After his changes, all the phones have caller id but the top line shows the name and the bottom line shows --> 1 instead of the telephone number. He says that is how it should be but we used to see the number on the bottom line. Is there anything I can do myself? (By the way, the former tech told me that the caller id didn't show up on some of our phones because you could only have caller id on a set number of phones and we had exceeded it.)

You either get name or number on the DX80. You can toggle back and forth by using the soft keys under the display. Next call press the keys(escaping me which one of the three under the display) and it will change to the telephone number.

Do you have any user guides?
On page 36--it mentions that to toggle between name & number, use the left interactive button.
The former tech was mistaken in the notion that you have exceeded the number of phones for CID.

Thanks. The left interactive button doesn't do anything. Maybe I need to get him to come back to program it?

There is nothing to program. CID works on sets that are programmed to ring. The interactive buttons (three under the display) work with no programming. They cannot be programmed. They are interactive buttons. Look at page 36 of your user guide. You should have gotten one for each one of your phones.
The system will display only those digits or letters that your local carrier sends. Some carriers have been known to only send either the name or the number but not both. Check with your local carrier.

The former tech was mistaken in the notion that you have exceeded the number of phones for CID. Not always true. Only 24 phones are allowed in a UCD group. It generally isn't wise policy to ring multiple UCD groups simultaneously in any TECOM system to increase the number of ringing stations.
