What is the difference between a SCS and non-SCS Impact phone?

Ok that made me laugh but is so true.
I have some phones that have the 7 programmable buttons (looks like the DSS buttons) running vertical alongside the key pad and other that don't; they have the 3 buttons under the keypad and 3 more under the DSS buttons which are pre-programmed. Am I correct in that the SCS phones are the ones with the vertical DSS-like buttons?

The Impact series model numbers begin with 80 and 81. The SCS series begin with 82, 83 and 84.
