Welcome to the Board!!
Comdial has made many many phones and systems --what model of phone do you have?? There should be a paper label on the underside---when you look for that---look for a volume slide key on the bottom edge of the phone.
The model number of the phone should help---some of the models had one slide for ringer volume and another for the speaker volume (if I recall correctly).

It would be better if we knew what control unit you have..Executech phones worked on a lot of KSU's (control units) on the side of the control unit there should be a sticker..see what model it is. (example N 1024, XEXL 616, something like that)

6614T-PG - there is a volume control on the front (slider) and off, low or high button on the back, but these don't turn the ringer on.
Past experience tells me that this is a feature that can be programmed into the phone to either turn the ringer on or off - thanks!

Some ringing options can be proramming through the phone but the programming takes place in the KSU (key service unit) usually in a closet in your office. It is required to know which KSU you have. Many of the older KSU's have ringing programmed as a "toggle" feature. I would not try to program this as a novice as it can result in turning off ringing at other phones for different lines.
Does the phone ring on an intercom call?

yes it rings on intercom calls - have been told previous manager turned on and off as needed - can't imagine her going back and forth to basement, where KSU located.
thanks!

This may be a Day/Night mode situation? As previous posters have said - we need to know what KSU you have in order to help you.

If it rings for intercom calls there is no problem with the phone. You will need to have the lines you want to ring on that phone programmed to it, this will require the services of your telephone system vendor.
You can turn the ringer on and off but for ALL CALLS only. The only other thing possible would be a day/night key. The system has day and night ringing. Maybe the previous manager controlled the ring with a the day/night key.
Do you have a day/night key on that phone or any other phone?
