We have an old comdial G1632 ksu that we have been using for a number of years. I am in a pretty rural area and can't find anyone these days to work on them and hope someone can help me out.
A while back, our comdial debut lite voice mail crapped out and I purchased an inexpensive VME 4000 voice mail unit. Set it up and ran for about a year with no problems.
At one point, I must have done something wrong because all of a sudden the voice mail light on the comdial phones would not go off, even after you listened to the message. Played with anything I could to turn off the message light and it worked (of course no memory now of what it was). New problem is that when a message is left for a mailbox via the voice mail system, the message light will NOT light up. I have completely wiped the VME program and started over, hoping that would help, but it did not.
I know that the lights are functional on the phones because I can press ITCM *3 EXT and it will light up. And I know the VME unit is setup for comdial with message light on code of PP*P3PX and off code of PP#P3PX, which I hope is correct.
Any thoughts on what I could have done to screw this up? Thanks much...

If the VME is connected to the Comdial with an ATI-D, connect a standard telephone to the first port and dial the light on string. Test each port!

Thanks. It is connected through an ATI-D (actually a couple). It's a 2 port vmail but I've only ever been able 1 to work. The system does still bounce to vmail and you can leave a message.
Excuse my ignorance. I know i have dial tone on the outgoing end of the ATI-d. When I plug in an analog line and dial the light on string, is that all i do or do I need to add and extension or something like that?

Part of the "light on" string is the extension number! If your ports are designated as voicemail ports you may not have dial tone but still go off hook and dial the string. If the second port is not working, that may be your issue. The VME has a monitor function, as I recall, that lets you see what its dialing and the port used.
