Thanks everyone, maybe I should tell you what I want to do and you can explain the best method.
When a caller hears our annoucements they press 1 2 or 3 and this is routed to an extension. I want to be able to change where option 3 takes the caller to. I can change the message but not the routing and I don't want to be rejigging the message too often. At the moment I have 7 buttons routed to specific extensions but as the business changes we may want extensions not currently mapped to be routed from a button. Our local dealer is charging $175 an hour and taking two hours to do this.
I think we should be able to do this work without any additional charges.

Microman, Is it a auto attendant card or a voicemail card thats handling the incoming calls? Maybe you could tell us which card you are working with and we'll try to help.Theres absolutely no way it should take someone 2 hours to do that.

I think its an auto attendant, I am still trying to figure out if I can talk to the system via an RJ45 socket.
In the next couple of days I should have timer to get some more info from the side of the box.

Tom, If you can give us a list of what cards are in the system and we'll go from there. By the sound of an RJ-45 you mave have an SVMi-8E voicemail system and thats the lan connection for it.

The AA card would not have an RJ45 for sure, but it is possible to have both AA cards and SMVI voicemail, I have one running like that in Santa Monica.
If the system has a card that says AA you would be programming an AA card.
If the system has no AA card you would be programming a voicemail for sure.
The list of cards would surely help see what you have. Are dial tones coming in on copper lines or an E-1?
