We've just upgraded to the samsung Office Serv 500 system and I'm trying to work out how to make it "sip compatible".

I've installed a sip server and now want a way of translating the sip addresses to extension numbers on the samsung box.

Does anyone know a method of doing this?

Don't your Samsung installers do this as part of the installation or did you just buy the parts because you are very good at IT?

It might be a good idea for the EU guys to get some euro manuals sent over to the Sundance people so they could be put into .pdf files and downloaded.

For instance I have done Samsung for about 15 years and I have no idea what a DCS II is because your ksus are often somewhat different and the names are different.

We had an Australian company set up in Venice, CA and ask us for a Compact. When we got there with the DCS Compact he looked at us like we didn't know our whatever from a hole in the ground. In the US, a Compact is a small plastic cabinet that maxes out at 10x32 with s/l and all and in Australia the Compact is a larger metal cabinet that can have a lot more ports.

That said, more likely than not, setting up a sip server there is probably identical to setting it up here with the exception of the 110 power supply and if there is a way of translating addresses here it would probably be identical over there.

That is out of my field of expertise but it would be nice to have some info on your systems so we could see approximately what matches ours and we could have a better chance of getting the right info on the first try.

If you have a Samsung UK website for the public that lists your equipment, please share that with us and we will have a better idea of what compares to what.

Thanks, Bunnie

Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately Samsung doesn't seem to want anyone to know how this works. Our Samsung Installers, who went on all the VOIP training courses, were not told anything about sip connectivity.

Also, the manual for the product hasn't been updated since 2003, and there is no mention of the SIP settings.

This post: https://www.sundance-communications.com/forum/Forum23/HTML/000208.html shows that they had hidden the functionality for quite a while. However, in the new version (3.07) the functionality is accesible and the basic settings for connection to a SIP server seem relatively straight forward. However, there is no explanation of how to tell the Office Serv how to translate SIP requests to Extensions (and vice versa).

Any ideas?

Well, actually looking at it now... what I meant to say is that the office serv manager software version is 3.07....

the actual software version of the officeserv 500 is 2.46.

Have you done any sip connections with the OS500?

Good luck with the sip server. As far as Samsung is concerned they enabled the iDCS500 for sip connectivity but that's about it. They will not support any sip server problems or even talk to you about how it works because honestly, they don't even know. I have been a Samsung tech for 7 years and found it hard to get support on the sip server settings. All I can say is keep posting and hopefully some one out there has set one up. I heard of a dealer in NY that had a sip server going but not sure where or what dealer it was.

The software versions in the US differ in that they read out in American English which we understand vrs. the Queen's English which the UK guys understand.

If our manual asked us to remove the bonnet of the cabinet we would have a bloody good reason to call tech support and ask for Mike McKensie.

Also, the UK version has MMC 899 which programs the GPS locator for pubs selling warm beer (something you often need after working on a DCS.)

Seriously though, have you contacted any VOIP gurus that work for different E-1 vendors (T-1/PRI in American English) and asked them to come check it out to see if they would put any time into it?

If you could get anyone in tech support to give you an email address for the korean programming dept. maybe you could suggest that you would pay for help. Everything at Samsung is geared towards more sales not more help and if you offered to pay someone, that might be your only way. Send a hundred pounds and tell them there is more where that came from if they get it to work and then make sure you record all the phone calls so you don't forget what you did and can do it again.

Thanks Bunnie

You can forget about it.. really. smile

2.46 & 2.37 crash if there is something in the SIP header they do not like.
I analised the header that was sent to OfficeServ 500 and crashed it and yts 100% RFC complient.

Yet it takes down whole IP stack on MCP2 card.
That means no SMDR data if you're doing IP SMADR, means no problramming via OfficeManager, means no IP phones work.

The only way to make it work again is to restart MCP2 and that means whole building is upset.

Now as soon as Samsung found out that SIP message crashed PABX i was basiaclly shown the door.

If you want VoIP, but additional TERPI card, but PRI card for your asterisk and join them with PRI cross over cable.

It will be the best money you've spent.

Samsung support is arogant and ALWAYS above the law. All the broshires we had here advertised "IP Connectivity", "Industry Standard SIP and H323 protocols", and bulshit advertising liek this.

In Australia we have a Trading Act that deals with shit like this. If i had enough money to take Samsung to cort here i would have and i'm more then 100% sure that we would win.

Unfortunately big corporations win.. ALWAYS.

As you can see my expiriences have left me a bit upset.

Anyway, from now on its Alcatel or Asterisk for any of the office buildign i'll do because Samsung is just not worth it.
