I maintain a Prostar DCS system. Three (out of 20) users have complained of instances where voicemail messages are delayed in lighting the message light on their phone. Some people have said the delay is a few hours, some people have reported delays of a couple days. I'm still trying to gather more information, but I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem. For one user, I have completely deleted the old mailbox and created a new one, same mailbox number. For that one user, it has not happened since (about a week), but it is unknown if it will strike again.

Any thoughts?

Could be glare, that is when an icoming call collides with a voicemail port about to go off hook and deliver the message light on/off code.Hard to prove it out unless it happens enough to narrow it down to the voicemail or the phone system. You could if you were that concerned about it put a digit grabber on the voicmail port(s) and make sure it is dialling the codes properly.

The problem was settings in MMC 102 not being set correctly. Busy & No Answer were set to none and those setting have been modified for all extensions. Hopefulyl this resolves the problem.

That would not affect the message lights not being lit.It would affect callers even getting to the mailboxes.

A phone tech was coming up to do some wiring for our company and I pointed out the glare problem. While MMC 102 only effects routing calls, if enough calls were in a voicemail limbo state before getting to mailboxes, the glare could have been happening then when the lines were taken up waiting for someplace to go. Made sense to me, but I really don't know much about the system to begin with.

As you suspected pvj, the glare/no message light lit problem has happened twice since the modification recommended by the phone tech that was here. Rather than spend $400 on a digit grabber and spend a couple weeks trying to fix this, I've been thinking about a new system anyway and this recurring problem may be enough to push the company to buy a new system. Thanks again for your help!

I've heard this problem before sitting on a buttset listening to a third party voicemail that "hung up " on people. What happened was the voicemail was going offhook to light a message waiting light at the same time an incoming call came to the same vmail port. The incoming caller hears the message light dtmf code then the port hang up disconnecting the caller. An alternative is to light the message lights more than once if the vmail is capable of it.That way a second attempt should be more successful or make sure the port that lights the message lights is the last port to handle any incoming callers. That will also reduce the risk of glare.
