Hi all. My customer has a DX-80 with the following configuration:

-) 12 CO lines
-) 16 digital ports
-) 4 analog ports
-) Voice mail with 4 ports (hard drive based)
-) DX-80 & DX-120 phones
-) DX-120 DSS

and wants to add:

-) 8 digital ports
-) 4 analog ports
-) 4 ports to the voice mail

I am considering to propose buying DX-120 (only the KSUs) to replace the current system while preserving the current investment, and hopefully increase the lifetime (support) of the system.

The literature says that all DX-80 cards are compatible, is this true in your experience?

The system is in Mexico, and as far as I know there is no support from Vertical in this country. So I do want to take the risk if there are known issues.

I appreciate your comments/advice.

Thanks.

Juan

Why not add the digital card and analog card and call it good. The DX-80 has been pretty solid and operates faster than the 120. That being said you are correct about supporting the DX-80. It's no longer supported and expansion cabinets are impossible to come by if it fails. I have lot's of inventory so if a DX-80 fails I can replace or upgrade at the customers option. I don't know your situation regarding this.

The 4 port mail expansion is discontinued but log into the CCC site and they have some in the closeout bin. Don't delay if you need those.

Thanks for your comments. Is it safe to say that the DX-80 is both faster and more stable?

I do not keep any inventory. The only time that something failed (I think the KSU main board got damaged) we sent the part to the US for replacement.

The three cards are available at this time from different suppliers (I do not a Vertical partner). I you have a suggestion/option please do let me know.

Two more questions:

1) Does the 7273 card (4 expansion ports for the voice mail) include an installation guide? Is it easy to do?

2) Is it possible to take the APM4 module out of a DX-120 KSU and install in either the DX-80 KSU1 or KSU2?

Thanks a lot.

Juan, both systems are equally stable. Just make sure they are plugged into a battery backup.

I'll have to test the DX120 SL board in the DX80. The last DX80 was F15 firmware and the DX120 board is an F18. I'll test and let you know. If it doesn't there's a number of members on this board that have these cards laying around.

The 7273 expansion is plug and play but does your customer really have the traffic to justify this? Vertical communications has stock on this card but once again some members have these laying around too. If you can't obtain one through your sources let us know.

I'll test the card this afternoon.

Deltron, thanks for your advice.

Fortunately, the system is in a room with both A/C and a UPS system backed up by a generator.

Both systems being equally stable, what would be the specific benefit(s) of upgrading to the DX-120 (in terms of performance/stability).

I also wonder about the need for 8 voice ports. Very seldom a call gets answered through the 4th voice port; however, if someone is checking the mailbox at the same time, one or more calls would be missed. My customer business is sales, so they do not want to risk.

Mark, for the equipment, I want to order everything from the same source. Are you (or anybody else) able to sell us everything and ship it to Nuevo Laredo, Texas?

If we decide to replace the DX-80, I need advice on the required steps (firmware upgrades, etc.) before I begin the process. Let me know if anybody is willing to offer this service.

Regards.

Juan, as far as I can tell the F18 SL board works in the DX80 properly.
