Hi.
I have kind of a dumb question but does the DCS prostar (not compact) have the MCP, SCP and LCD as integrated(and out of view) the cabinet itself?
It does not have a separate removable card such as on the iDCS 500 R2?
Thanks.

all the cards in the dcs are removable it is basically just a back plane. There are no mcp scp or lcd??
That is for the 500's only. The dcs had an expansion A,B which were the pre lcp,scp and the dcs had its ram but no mcp

I'm still a little confused.
There is no MCP,SCP,LCP on the DCS?
Do you mean it does not have a separate removable card like on the 500 but its integrated as part of the general cabinet.
Are you saying there is no MCP on the DCS but only a SCP which is integrated into the cabinet?
The expansion A,B is needed in order for the SCP to work or do you mean it add extra RAM for these function that already exist in the main cabinet?
In other words, lets say for example you have setup with:
1. DCS cabinet. 2. Power supply 3. DLI card 4. A1 Trunk Card 5. DCS ROM 2 Card
Are you good to go for an very basic operation(8 digital station with 2 outside lines)
Thanks

the expansion a and b are the equal to the scp and lcp respectivly, the rom is the mcp's equal
The cards for the 500 MCP,LCP,SCP are just for the 500 they were designed for it alone as part of the new technology
The DCS cards are the original technology and cant be used on the 500
and yes your good to go but your set up for 2 lines 8 stations, that seems small for the dcs maybe you should think DCSC instead or do you have the system already?

Try to think of the 500 and the DCS as two completely different systems, which they are. The only thing you need in a DCS main KSU for basic operation is a PSU 40 or PSU 60, a trunk card such as an A1 (which has extra stuff on it) or C1, an DLI card for phones and a ROM 1 or ROM 2 card. Did you acquire a DCS? What are your plans with it if you have? Why are you trying to compare it to a 500?

Gotcha, you both missed this: There never was a DCS Prostar. Ah Ha. It was just the DCS.
This was Samsung's first attempt to build digital systems. It had processing stuff with a CPM chip on the backplane and the ROM card held the Read Only Memory.
We old timers didn't have to deal with SCPs, MCPs, LCPs, just a lot of patience with the people who claimed to be the management in Florida.
It only did one T-1 because of clocking issues and to go past one cabinet you put an Expansion A or A1 (not TRK A1) in the 7th slot of the main cabinet and an Expansion B in the dedicated slot in the expansion cabinet. A long curly cord connected the two cabinets.
I have DCS cabinets out there that have been working for years and years and years and years, if only things were as simple now.....
