I have a customer who currently has a DCS and I will be upgrading them to a 500R2 next month. They have a lot of old 24 button sets. I have heard that some of the old versions of phones lose some of their functionality when installed on a R2. I just want to make sure that the old ver. 1.2 and up of 24 button sets will work correctly with a new MCP2 processor. Thank you in advance for any input on this matter. Thanks,
Brian

No worries...did that a few months ago w/24b LCD & 64B AOM's. Just remember that if there are any Kdb-DLI/SLI's in the field keysets that you HAVE to use a 8DLI card in the system 16DLI do not support/have the extra "3XX" channels...Gee is that how they made a "16" from an * circuitry? Back-up your key programming by doing it first in the SYSTEM Key programming...then modify from there. Don't try to program individual station keys until the system is running & phones are on the system, it pukes that right up. Have fun!

Thanks for the info. I had heard a horror story from one of the guys in a training class that said he was in this situation and all he could program were call buttons and line appearence. I guess I will find out.

From someone who put the brand new DCS in before she went to a training class well over a decade ago, the 28 buttons work perfect on a compact, DCS, 50si, iDCS100 R1& R2, 400, iDCS R1 and R2.
You have to have at least one Call button, but the Transfer and Speaker buttons are built in so you have 23 of the 24 buttons to use while on the iDCS28 button phones you have 25 of the 28 buttons to use because you must have a Call, Transfer and Speaker.
You only get two extra real buttons moving from a 24 to a 28.

I agree the 24 button is not a problem. If you have the ability to fire up the system early and connect a 66 block to the DLI ports, use an adapter (from Graybar) that you can clip on the 66 block pins to set the port for the correct phone type then start the software. USE THE CORRECT OSM (very important), default the voicemail if you have a new one, use 2 call keys and 2 Jack/Coke. From what I have seen most of the "horror stories" could have been prevented by good up front planning. Bunnie is right. If you have doubts, call Tech Support prior to starting. Less than 15 minutes is a small time in their que which is better than an "all nighter"!
