I have an 816 that wont hold the time. I enter the time in it and it doesnt accept it. It randomly comes up with a new time/date. Never the same. Anyone ever seen this?

I can't speak from experience on that particular system, but it sounds to me like the memory battery may be failing in the KSU. Whenever there is a dip or outage with the AC power, and the memory battery is getting weak, anything can happen. Do you know if the battery has ever been replaced? I only ask this since the Prostar name brand hasn't been used for some time and that's a lot longer than a memory battery usually lasts.

Have you initialized it ?
Some times the data gets messed up on the chips when the power fluxes.
Had it happen on a 56/120....Yes they are still out there. Once defaulted see what you get.
Along with that the old software was not y2k so you might need to use a year like 79 instead of 06 to trick the system into playing nice

I have a slightly differentproblem on an iDCS500R2. Loses several minutes a month. I wish they would add NTP support to keep the switch on time!

I will try initializing....
I dont think it is the battery, as none of the other programming is lost. Also the time/date loss occurs with the system powered up, almost instantaneously after filling it in.

They do have a clock crystal in the 816 to keep the time and that is probably defective.
The 500R2 has to still be in warranty so why not send it back as a defective? That would just be fun.
For what it is worth, most of the Amanda at Soho voicemails are terrible at keeping the time. This is common among the telecom industry.

I know this post is a few days old, but something to think about! On 816 prostars non-plus versions the way you exit mmc determines the clock format! So if you let it time out in programming you get 24hour format by default if I remember correctly! Try to exit with mmc#20 passcode and 4 # to keep 12 hour format.

To set for AM/PM it is # 2 0 [4 digit reverse numerical passcode] 4 #.
You set time in 24 hour clock, read out in AM/PM.
