Hi all, I have just bought an AA card for our DCS 816 and while I have the manuals for the phone system and know where to install it, I have a couple of questions: Firstly, are there any pre-installation checks/procedures I should follow? Removing the on-board battery... turning off the memory? Secondly, the manual has a section which states: All SLI circuits are designed to provide a disconnect signal required for VM/AA operation. The system requires MDF connection for single line telephones and all connections can be made through the RJ-45 connector on the base board. I'm not 100% sure what this means. What connections do I need to make after I have installed the board in the phone system? Lastly (for now!), how do we actually record our own messages into the system? Thanks in advance for any help! Mark Costa

Mark the 8 position jack that they refer to as an RJ45 requires you to crimp an 8 position plug on a 4 pair wire using pins 1&8 for SLI-1 pins 2&7 for SLI-2 pins 3&6 for SLI-3 pins 4&5 for SLI-4 You can record your main greeting using the admin password. Power down the system before you insert the VM board

I think this just got confusing. The AA card install in the system "power down first" the sli ports dont mean any thing here they are only used for an external VM/AA system. you need to program mmc 207,736 and 731 thru 735 you also need to look in mmc 108 this is a read only mmc and you need to make sure of the port numbers here for the aa. you need to assign the aa ports to a station group in mmc 601 and make sure the trunks ring that group at the appropriate times to record you need to put an aa record key on a phone and press it then enter the passcode then dail the first aa port (381 is typical) then dail the prompt number and record (this should be the prompt you selected in the plan at mmc 733) whew my hand hurts Would you like to pm someone like larry or my self and take this privately because it gets very detailed and should not be posted on an open board

Thanks Waine I had my head into voice-mail and not the AA card. I guess I was concentrating on the SLI pinouts which he will not need anyway.

The EU people don't have equivalent ksus but very similar programming. As I understand it, the EU compact would be a 100 here. The line/station capacity is not the same as here, for what good reason other than grey marketing, I don't know.
That said, there may be more or less members (look at 724 for AA port numbers) but recording the announcements would be the same.
Putting an AArec and an AAPlay button on one phone is a big help.

Hey everyone, thanks for all of your replies - but I think I've come up against a problem before I can even get properly started!
I got the new card today and plugged it in, but when turning on the phone system, all I get displayed is VER V2.1 on a handset. Am I up against some minimum version requirement here?
Thanks for your time,
Mark

Just a little note, but we're still clinging on to the British Pound.. Yes its a UK card, pulled from a UK system as far as I'm told and I haven't changed anything at all - just powered down the system and put the card in
