Hello, I'm a newbie to the phone systems. Can I get directions how to set up the IDCS100 with svmi-4e for two CO lines, 6 extensions, and 1 analog fax machine? IDCS100 is mounted to the wall, and 2 CO lines and 6 extention (ext#201~206) phones are connected.

>2 CO lines are connected to P1 port of IDCS100
>6 extensions are connected to P2 port of IDCS100

All 6 phones have dial tone, and they can internally call and answer each other, which is a good part for the first time instller. The bad part is that when I dialed '0' to get to the outside line tone, I get the loud static noise. It still successfully called my cell phone, but I can only hear the statics from my cell and Samsung phones. Both CO lines are very clear when the telephone tester is directly connected. Could you tell me what causes the static noise through the IDCS100 system?

2. If my 1st problem gets solved, I need to learn how to connect the analog fax and how to configure its extension to receive/send fax from the 2nd CO number. Can I also call outbound using the 2nd line from any other extensions? If yes, how?

Has this system been ever been set up or are you now just programming it for the first time its been out of box? when you get into programming for the first time, it makes you set it to the correct country its installed in. That might be your static problem.

You said "">2 CO lines are connected to P1 port of IDCS100
>6 extensions are connected to P2 port of IDCS100"" I hope you just mistyped that, it shoud be the other way around. Please list the cards in your system and what slot there in.

RCA, thank you so much for your response!!!

I'm programming it for the first time, but a person who sent it to me has already configured the basic settings.

Looking at the back up copy of the configuration (.DPL file) from OfficeServ Manager (IDCS100 R1), MMC 812 says USA. I'll double check from the console tonight.

And...Yes, I did connect 2 CO lines to P1, and 6 extn lines to P2. Is this bad? I'll change them today when I get in the office this evening.

I'll let you know when I'm done.

Kor welcome I hope you find this site useful.

I dont know how to put this politely so I am just going to spit it out.

I would call the company that sent it to you and MAKE them set it up .

No offense but that is what a trained and certified installer does for a living and these "send it in the mail people" dont get that concept. They just leave you hanging in the wind when it comes time to make it work mad

The information you are requesting is not user qualified it is however for installers and there are plenty of them here on the board. Like I said I would call a tech or pm someone from the board and ask them to hook you up. Keep in mind you might need to pay for the service call.

That said

if you have the phones working dail 701 if oy uget an outside dailtone then all you need to do is program buttons and voicemail boxes.

I have done this before. I don't have the book or my notes in front of me so I will try to do off the top of my head.

1. Do you have an SLI card installed in the system?

If so, which slot do you have it installed in? Slot 1, slot 2, or slot 3?
If you have an expansion cabinet, it might be in slot 4, 5 or possible 6.

2. You must confirm that you have the fax extension connected to an SLI port in your system.

You have a thick 25 pair station cable connected to the idcs 100?

Slot 1 card are pair ( 1-8)
Slot 2 card are pair( 9-16)
SLot 3 card are pair (17-24)
* a toner(tone generator and probe) should tell you which extension you have the fax wired into.

3. MMC 724 can be used to assign the analog port to an extension number. It will show the physical address of the port(cabinet 1 -Slot 2-Port 5) ie(C1-S2-P05) for example of the SLI port. Then you assign it to an extension number.

4. MMC 406 you can assign your 2nd trunk CO line to call the extension associated with your fax machine.

5.MMC 306 Hotline can assign the fax station to automatically use line 2 by assigning the trunk to that station.

6. Assign a trunk group in MMC 603 and assign the trunk group as "9" so when you dial 9, it will access that trunk group(Group of all the CO lines you want to use)

This should get you pointed in the right direction.

The line noise might be the wires may be not connected tight enough. Make sure that wires are not touching other wires and if you have needle nose pliers, you can use them to make sure they are extremely deeply pressed in for a rock solid connection.(make sure the phone system off first). You can also use the punch down tool. Make sure the wires connected do not have too much plastic stripped off on other places and the wires is not too long after connected to the block(this might mean its touching places on the block its not suppose to touch. You may need to cut the wire then connect them again so only the part touching the metal is exposed.

You can also program 2 buttons on your phones for each of your outside lines.

MMC 722 for a single phone
MMC 723 for all phones at once.

Just program the button for line 1 as

"DT+trunk number" in your case "DT701"

For line 2, program a button called " DT702"

* DT by the way stands for " Direct Trunk"

Sorry I could not be more help.

Good News!!

The static noise is gone after uploading the back-up program to the system. I think it lost the configuration program while it was sitting at the closet for a week without power. OSM did not have any of my previous settings including the country code as RCA mentioned earlier. Thank you, RCA.

I also took WidowPC_guy's recommendation and rewired everything. My closet now looks very clean and neat.

I still need to work on AA/VM and the FAX this week. To solve my FAX problem based on WidowPC_guy's note, I will need to purchase KP24D-B2S (2 line SLI card) for IDCS100, right?

Yes, you are correct.

You will need an SLI port if you want to connect an analog fax machine to your system.

What type of CO card do you have?

Sometimes the CO card might have SLI built in them?

Do you know if you have a 2X4 SLI card? The Part number# might be " KP24D-B6S/XAR" ?

There is also the option of bypassing the system and having the fax connected to the CO line 2 directly. However, this could turn into a problem since a fax and phones might access the line at the same time.
