Hello.
I was told in a recent post about backing up the customer information using an FTP client such as WS_FTP.
I realize the default IP address of the system are “ 10.10.108.6†and you set your Ethernet Adaptor on your PC TCP/IP settings to:
10.10.108.5 255.255.255.0 10.10.108.1
and that Hyperterminal used port 23 Emulation type to : ANSI or ANSIW
Can anyone tell me the settings used in WS_FTP in order to backup the customer database?
Thanks for your help.

WS-FTP is nothing more than a FTP client that you can use to connect to the svmi. Once connected it's up to you to copy the appropiate directories and files onto your PC.

If the WS-FTP acts as a client(on your PC).
It means the SVMI must act as a FTP server right and must have an FTP program already installed?
Does the operating system on the SVMI have a built-in FTP server?
Can you please let me know the procedure to backing up in this method?
Did you use the backup menu in HyperTerminal or does the FTP just allow you to see the files and copy them over?
Any information you can give me would help me out a lot.
Thanks

I just did this today. If you have the correct IP address in the card and on your pc, try pinging the card from your laptop. If you can ping ok, then shutdown the voicemail to the C:\ prompt and type: " cd sockets ftpd "
This will initialize the FTP server on the voicemail. To exit the FTP mode, press CRTL C and type X
Then with the ftp mode running you can put the server IP into WSFTP. The username and password are both xxxxx. Remember it as xxxxxxxxxx
Then you will be able to see all the files on the voicemail and simply highlight them, navigate to the correct destination on your local side of the page and click the arrow in the direction you want the files to travel. The lower portion of the screen will display progress of the transfer.
IMPORTANT! The only files that you should back up are: c:\msg c:\pmt\en_us c:\dta\*.tbl (there are 5 tbl files, copy them all) c:\mbx
This will be everything other than the samsung operating system. Restoreing the OS files is not neccesary or wise because it can corrupt the voicemail.
Please respect the rules and do not post passwords

It makes a lot more since now that I know the procedures that I need to follow. I normally use the LAN connection with a Crossover Cat 5 cable to connect directly to the SVMI-8E and use Hyerterminal. I guess I can’t shutdown to the C:\ prompt and type if I’m using the LAN port to interface with the equipment correct? I think I read the C:\ prompt does not support the LAN connection and you need a specially configured serial cable with the 2/3 pins crossed in order to use the serial port? Have you ever tried that “IOMEGA Zip drive†method? I read the drivers are already installed. Can I use this method with also using the LAN? Do you have any opinions on the IOMEGA Zip drive method backup method or is that even more difficult? Well thank so much for your help. You have really pointed me in the right direction on this.

Its not forbidden it just needs to be continued in private because of its nature. When ever programming is involved that is beyond user/admin information it should not be posted in an open forum. For several reasons one of which is that some information could be used by a disgrunteled employee to damage a phone systems use, another is when an end user comes across post with "bad" information they could unintentionally curropt there data and force them into a service call that was unnessassary. An example would be if we posted info about the email gateway (setting up ftp) and a cadence user or svmi4 user tried to do it they would damage there drive and render it useless.
I appologize if these RULES are not satisfactory to everyone but they are rules we need to follow. Without them there would be anarcy.
