Our SVMi-8e voicemail card, in an iDCS500 system, randomly reboots during the day. Of course, in this context "random" means "I don't know why it is happening".

The Error Log gives no indication why the reboot occurred, and the Activity Log gives a blow-by-blow account of the process of rebooting but, again, no indication of why it had to occur.

This is our second SVMi-8e card, a replacement for another card that exhibited this same behavior. Other than, "That's Technology for you", the only thing I can think of is that the air temperature where the iDCS500 box is located can run anywhere from 80 to 85 degrees. Is this too warm an environment?

I'm not a Samsung tech, but in answer to your question on temp. that's easy to see, remove the cover, put a fan on it and see if it cures it. Providing the cover is removable.

The cover is removable laugh

what power supplies do you have in the system?
hopefully two of them.

were is the card located in the cabinet ei:slot number?

is this a hard drive or a flash?

sorry for the questions but the info is kind of important.

The reason for the power question is that the system allocates power as needed and the voicemail is a the bottom of the as needed list, were a t1 station or trunk card will take priority over it for power.

Also if your able to check the version of the svmi8. There was a version that had problems. If it is version 4.1 realease 1 then your ok. Also if your 500 has more than one cabinet make sure that the svmi is in the main cab. Have you been able to see what is going on with hyperterm. when the voicemail is actually failing? How are you stopping the problem once it starts?

Sorry to be so dumb about Samsung, don't know as I've ever seen one. "Play it again Sam", was the last I knew Sam sung. laugh

Same issue. Removed cover, placed two fans blowing across cabinet, problem solved.

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. As long as the fat lady hasn't sung on this system, Sam can sing all he wants. :-)

The order of the cards, from left to right, is as follows:

PSU-B|PSU60|SVMi8E|TEPRI|empty|AA|DLI|DLI|DLI|DLI|SLI|MCP2

The first thing we're gonna try is putting the empty slot next to the power supply. (We're also changing the PSU60 to a PSU-B, but that's separate.) Next will come cooling fans if the problem is unresolved.

The SVMi-8E is version 4.2, and the system uses a flash drive.

Hi. Dont be surprised to have a Samsung Voicemail either 8e or 16e have reboot issues.

Its known at samsung, and it isnt anything wrong with your system. I have a 16e that reboots, and I have done everything that I can think of to it.

Replacement cards, Replacement KSU, PSU-B's, MCP2, Software, etc. Ive upgraded it to the absolute latest version possible.

The current state of things is that if you have this issue, you are going to keep having this issue until samsung releases a new version of the board. They are working on it, and are getting alot of pressure, but dont expect an answer soon. Keep in touch with samsung tech support, and a gentlemen there Tim Sarvis, who is the engineer working on the problem.
