First, let me say that I am brand new to phone administration. I was just hired as a computer administrator (which I know a lot about) and the phone administration came with the job (which I know nothing about). Apparently no one here knows anything about the system either. They seem to barely be using any of the features... no voicemail, no welcome message, no directory, nothing. From what I can see, this is a Samsung Prostar DCS with 9 slots inside. They are labelled as follows:
PSU - PSU60
SLOT1 - TRK-A1
SLOT2 - TRK-C1
SLOT3 - TRK-C1
SLOT4 - DLI
SLOT5 - DLI
SLOT6 - 8SLI
SLOT7 - SLI
ROM - ROM1

Can you tell me the purpose of each of these pieces? Should I simply order a manual for this?

Also, I would like to know how to change the extensions of our keysets. We are using Samsung LCD 24B and LCD 12B keysets but the extensions are all over the place and not in order at all. Fortunately this is only a small company and these things can be fixed now without too much trouble.

PSU60 is the power supply can supply up to 60 devices (stations)
TRKA1 2 co lines,moh external paging output
TRKC1 8 co lines
DLI 8 digital station ports capable of supporting 8 daughterboard cards in phones
SLI 4 port analog sli extensions
Rom 1 Operating system software capable of supporting 1 serial interface module

Best bet honestly is to hire a Samsung dealer to get it set up initially and see if they could spend some time with you on system administration training. See if they can provide you with a tech. manual as well. Unfortunately you have no auto attendant or voicemail card in the system so you would need to do some reconfiguration and purchase the card for that functionality.

While we may not have an autoattendant card or voicemail card we do seem to have those capabilities via a computer that is attached to the system that is running an old version of Telekol IntegraX. I believe it is version 5.3. I think this program is supposed to take care of the voicemail and autoattendant.

Well, the Telekol would explain the 4-port SLI card. You will be needing to do changes in the VM if you start doing changes on system configuration as well, I would have to agree with benb on getting a telecom tech to set you up and start you rolling in the right direction. Once it is set up and you are given the info on how, it will be MUCH easier to keep up and make your own changes from that point forward. Coming into a system with no knowledge of it or how it is set up and is integrated with a non-proprietary voice mail unit would make for a lot of detective work.

Pay someone to come in and train you. You should be able to do adds, moves and changes with an hour of training.

Thanks for the advice and tips guys. Had a guy come in yesterday and while he did try REALLY hard to sell me a new system, he did give me the basic rundown of the phone system. A lot of the ports were not IDed properly and we got that all squared away. I now know how to move and setup new ketsets. The only part he was not able to help me with was the VM system. Looks like I am on my own to really understand that one. This seems like a really simplistic vm system. The business owner does not want an attendant to answer any phone. He always wants it to be a live person so that honestly simplifies things although it is not the route I would have taken. What I have to figure out now is how to transfer a call to a particular vmbox. That will be the next challenge. Thanks again for your help!

use a vt key on the phone it should be vt529 if they built the system correctly.

the user would bush the vt529 key then the extension key or dail it eg 211 then hang up the call. It will go to their mailbox.

This is assuming that the vm was setup properly to recieve dtmf from the phone system
