Help, this system gets stuck at maintenance every three to five days. Bad mail or ????????? Had tech support VPN to it and they say everyhting is fine. Have defaulted and reprogrammed 2 times. It is a CF, should I switch it out for HDD? Any tips in fixing this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Well I can't say that I have had this problem but if it's a software problem then changing to a hard drive shouldn't cure it as the software is identical. What version is the SMVi8E? The latest I believe is 4.2.2 If its a hardware problem then changing the CF card or adding a hard drive would fix it. Me I prefer the CF cards as we all know that one day that hard drive is going to go south running 24/7/365

When the system gets stuck have you been able to get onsite and log into it? If so what status are the ports in? When you say it gets stuck at maintenance where is it getting stuck? Sorry about the questions just need some more info. I have seen issues though it was with the svmi in the second or 3rd cabinet. I'm assuming you have just one cabinet here. Next time it gets stuck don't reboot it or do anything till you can try and hyperterm. into it to see the port status.

I know this will sound just like what tech support has said but.
It sounds like a pointer has corrupted up you need to rebuild the block tables then warm boot it.
if that's not the case do like Ben said but we really need to know the status of the screen before you reset it.

Did you try to execute the maintenance procedure (i mean menu H and then maint command few times)? Did you lose configuration or anything else, when VM stuck? I think y’need a replacement.

This system is on their LAN. System is set up for AA on all inbound traffic. I call every couple of days before they open and half the time system is not up. Get to the shop, VPN in and hyperterminal to the mail with no success. Try to ping the mail with no success. This site is the customers call center so uptime is critical. OSM in and restart the mail and everything is fine. It seems after it runs maintenance it does not exit the utility properly. I will run out there next time it happens and see what the status screen is sitting on. Thanks

This problem existed on the 4e for a while. the block table needs to be rebuilt. for that matter when you go in to the vm turn off reboot after maint until you can get a patch from Samsung.
to rebuild the block table you need to load it from the saved table at the prompt screen.

All great suggestions. Here is one more. Have you looked to see if the system has several checkdisk logs. Had similar trouble and found that there were bad sectors on the CF card, had to swap it out. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck BH.

That means you have a defective flash card with damaged sectors on it. There is nothing you can patch, upgrade, or do to repair it. It must be replaced.
