I have inherited a Comdial DXP system. I moved it for the customer and now they need some basic programming, ringing, names, lines, etc. I found a manual but it wants me to log in with a computer. The customer tells me that the last tech that worked on the system loged in on one of the phones. I need some help either phone or manual.

It depends on the software version of the DXP. If it's pre Rel 12 you can use Hyperterm or such to program. Post release 12 is going to require proprietary VMMI software.Very little could be done through the phone....speed dials, names etc. but no ringing.

How can I determine what the software release is? I have Hyperterm, do I need anything else?

Pull the CPU and look at the daughter board...it'll tell the software rev level. You could also Hyperterm into one of the comm ports and hit the enter key. Typically you will get a DXP banner screen with the soft rev if you have the right baud, parity, bits, etc.

I have hyperterm set up for nortel, panasonic, and toshiba. Can you tell me where to get the settings I need for Comdial and an instruction sheet on programming it?

Again..depends on the rev. If it's post rev. 12 Hyperterm won't work. You try 9600,N,8,1 to see if you get any info.

If it's pre-12, its all menu driven! Everything will be real time.

I am going to give it a try today. I have one more question. I am going to connect a
Viking PA2A to the system for ringing and paging. What ports or pair does it go to? Thanks for all of your help on this project!!!

The viking will take 6 lines directly connected or use the dxp relay setup for contact closure which the viking supports. You can use the dxp page port or an available trunk port for paging.
