Do you have a puch-down tool? swap the jumpers for the 2 phones but make sure you unplug the phones first. If you don't and they are different types of phones you will default them.

Or if you can log into tech. programming and the phones are the same type ie: both 28 button sets you can swap them in software using MMC217. If you do it that way be sure to remark the system blocks so the next guy that does a wire change doesn't get screwed up.

Do yourself a favor, never, never, never use 217 to swap phones. That is just like the norstar set relocate and people get so screwed up they call to have me fix it again and again.
Swap the jumpers, at least one set will be long enough to swing.

Bunnie is totally right! Always swap the jumpers. That way any backups that you have will stay mostly current. Unplug the phones 1st another great idea. If not, you will lose all button mapping if they are different kinds of phones. Don't use relocate or copy. My .02 cents from the school of hard knocks!

Wow, I was simply telling him there is more than one way. I never use the swap program myself because when you go back to the site everything gets messed up in the dial plan. Beleive me I rather have him get a punch tool and rewire the extensions but not all customers are that savy.

All it takes is 1 time. Amazing how smart they get after that! Kinda falls into the same idea of plugging PCA's in to a "hot" system. Just takes that 1 time. Service companies make a lot of money off those folks wanting to save a buck. At least he asked someone before he tried! You did right by him giving him the options!

There is no trick to it. Its just a simple trick.
1. MMC 108, find the extension then find the physical location. It will be like C1-S4-P11.
Write down the physical extension next to the extension number of a piece of paper.
2. MMC 724, Find the physical extension(example C1-S4-P11) and change the extension number located next to it for both extensions.
Now your done, you have swapped 2 extensions.
However you may need to do some cleanup work such as.
MMC 104, switch the names on the phone
MMC 722 or MMC 723 Change the extension short cuts to reflect the changes.
I'm done it many times, it works but you just have to cover all your bases.

And no where in those simple steps did you write down the changes in any kind of system record. That is why so many intallers hate functions like set relocation. The next time something goes south, you are first going to have to waste a lot of time trying to figure out which extension now correlates to which physical port because the records were never updated (if they were ever kept in the first place).

I'd rather use the extension relocate than use mmc724 and change the extensions that way.If you do it in 724 every DS key becomes useless for the extensions that you switch and in a big system with alot of DS keys that is a PITA.
