Hi,
These few questions are re the DCS Compact.

1. When there is a prolonged power outage, what should I do with the ram pack to keep all my settings. Can I turn it off and unplug it to keep it safe? I have a UPS, but as you probably know very well from crying a lot, it takes me 2 hours now to re-enter everything following a power outage that goes on longer than my UPS can support the DCS Compact.

2. How can I replace the battery in there? The original is dead. I wired in a 3-battery nicad, but it doesn't hold its charge.

3. What does the switch and the reset button actually do? I just need a sort of brief procedural explanation to use this component correctly.

4. I have eproms marked 2.6, although a phone when plugged in shows "Ver 2.0". Is this version okay? I've seen 2.8 talked about. Should I upgrade, and if so, how? I'm not sure these are available any more.

Thanks for your help!
Bob

1.2.3. There is nothing you can do. Turning off the switch does nothing more than allow you to boot fresh. The ram pack has a battery inside that should be good for several days. Your is bad (look for paul144) he can hook you up its replaceable.

4.No need for an upgrade. 2.0 is the phone version 2.6 is the system version, the only difference between the 2.6 and 2.8 minimal.

On a side note you can connect a sim to the system and use pcmmc to back it up for the time being. Then when you need it you can just upload again (pcmmc is not my choice but it will at least give you a copy of the programming)

You can upgrade the whole system to the 100 and keep your cards and phones. That would be my choice

Many thanks, W.
I think I might try and sell the system on ebay and get me one of those nec ds 1000s. Just over 600 bucks and let the telco do my voicemail. We're just a little home business.
Anyway, thanks a million!
What ever happened to the guy named Rich that used to post here? Do you remember him? Can't think of his last name. Very generous and helpful guy (like yourself).

I thought I had pcmmc but since then I've changed laptops. Still have the cable though. Is pcmmc built into the system and all I have to do is connect through the built in windows telnet?

No the pcmmc is a program on the pc or laptop.

Nec frown but if you are going to go that route check on the DSX

For that matter check on the idcs 16 you can keep your phones saves the cost there.

You would actually connect to the system through a serial port on a Misc card if you have 1 installed not a Sim.PCMMC is very dependent on having the right PCMMC program to the system software.
As for the iDCS616 you can reuse the phones on this system if they are iDCS phones not if they are DCS phones.
