Hi all, I'm about to propose a idcs 500 to a hotel that currently has a mitel sx 50 that I installed back in 1990, in the past I've always gone with mitel 200, EL etc.as an upgrade for Hotel and Samsung for Business, but now the Samsung is looking like a better option, any thoughts pro or con using Samsung as a Hotel switch? Also, I was wondering how the Voice mail stacks up using it in a guest room environment, let's say for lack of a better word "idiot proof"

You need to worry about your PMS (Property Management Integration). The Samsung is not as universal as the Mitel in that situation. However if your PMS is an approved integration with the Samsung you should be ok.
Samsung's SVMI series voice mail does not have any links to the PMS and is prob not a good choice unless your customer is ready to manage leftover room messages at checkout. A third party hospitality voice mail is probably a better choice.
Samsung far exceeds Mitel in the Front desk area and the back desk area, in having more business like features and hospitality features and having the ability to use them on ALL the keysets, rather than just the console.

For a voice mail InTouch Digital Systems has one that works with a 500, 7200, or 7400. It is pretty user friendly but it is not tech friendly for setup. They are good about helping you get it setup though. They have their own PMS system that integrates with the VM and Samsung Phone System. Get you wallet out though because it is very pricy.

Hi, Thanks everyone for the feedback, it looks like "for now" the Hotel just needs to get the priced smdr to the reservation PC and be able to print out all room charges on 1 bill, so that looks doable, as for the svmi-e 8, I'm thinking that I can minimize any options in thier Mclass, such as retain messages for 1 day, No change of greeting etc. Any thoughts?

Your setup sounds very do-able. Of course make sure your one day retention of voice mail message is well posted. What about a guest who doesn't return to the hotel daily? Maybe a AOM at the front desk programmed with message keys for all the rooms? The billing is simple but also quite bullet proof.
