I have a system (Samsung Prostar 1224) that has been installed and working great for some years. Recently a storm rolled through that created some havoc with the system. The system has a UPS in front of it but some voltage might have come in through the telephone circuits, but can't really determine. After the storm, the system reverted back to a default configuration. The customer data module is a few years old but thought that the nicad batteries on these basically worked for longer than that.

Now, when I do some changes to the configuration, three things I notice are:

- when entering program code 80 (key programming), all the KTS's phones line appearances show that they are offhook.
- after entering program code 80 (key programming), you can not dial any internal extension or hunt group codes. You get a message "NO MORE CALLS".
- the customer data module is not working. Soft reset (program code 01, reset system) does not loose programming but a hard reset (power system off) does loose all programmed data and reverts back to system default.

Any idea of what could be wrong? Is it simply the customer data module that is bad? Or has the KSU taken a power hit?

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Bruce

Its been a long time ,but I'm thinking the "no more calls" message meant the customer data mod was not installed.
That system was discontinued 10 or more years ago so you may be hard pressed for parts.
The customer data mod is the same as the 56/120.
You could replace the system with a 56/120 and use the same phones .

It may be a good time to find a Samsung dealer in N.J.to help you out.

The CDM has a battery on it to hold fup memory. Over time it fails, and you never know until you have a power outage. Not hard to replace.

KenB & phonman123, thanks for the replies. I had a feeling that the CDM was the culprit. I ordered a new nicad battery for it and will install that. Hope it is that simple.

Do you know how nuch different the Prostar 816 system is than the 1224 (referring to the KSU)?

They are 2 completely different control units and phones .

If you replace the 1224 with a 816 you also need to change the phones.

As I said above you can replace the 1224 with a 56/120 and use same phones.

By your description ,it sounds like you have more problems then a battery.

It really sounds like a dead battery on the CDM Module. Make sure you clear the memory after replacing the battery.

I do have 1224 parts in stock if your still having trouble after that.

Hey Guys, I'm back, still have the SamSung ProStar 1224, still working!

Had to replace the MB late last year and found that CDM has dead batteries, so need a little guidance in replacing the battery again....

Once I get the replacement battery, I can solder the new one onto a 2nd CDM I have, but when I go to swap out the CDM with the new battery with the CDM that is installed now, do I need to power the system down? Or are these boards "Hot" swappable?

Reason I ask is that when I power the system down now, won't I loose the configuration?

Or is there another way to "export" the config then reload it?

When I changed the MB, I had to put the config in numerous times and while not as bad as some systems, still a PITA! :-)
