I am new to the forum but I have done a couple of searches and I want to verify what I found and check on a couple things. I have a Samsung DCS system. Its a few years old. I didn't bring the info home with me but I think its a Prostar and It has at least a couple slots left in the box. It runs 4 lines, 2 display sets, and 4 non-display sets. I will check what I have for sure tomorrow.

First, what I have found is that I need to have:
1. Expansion Card A1
2. Any Trunk card of A1, B1, C1
3. Software greater than 3.00
4. Rom 1 card or greater

My questions start with the cards, I see Expansion cards EXPN A without the 1 listed on ebay. Would this work? Once, I get the cards installed, will caller id be automaticly displayed on display sets or do I need do change any configurations? I'll have to locate the manuals, but I didn't them having anything about setting up for caller id. So I want know if I need to set up something. Lastly, Where do I find the software version?

Also, I want to say, Its really great to have a place where this type of information is available to people like myself. I appreciate the people who provide their knowledge and experience. There doesn't seam to be very much info available out there. I just want to say thank you.

Has to be a A1, and you will need a manual or a local Samsung Dealer.

I will look to see what manual they gave us when we bought the system. The company we bought the system from was bought out by another company and that company is no longer in business. I thought I might try doing it myself if I can.

OK, I had a fresh look at it and I think I need to go back to the drawing board. Its a Samsung Prostar DCS Compact. I assume since this looks totally different from the plain Prostar DCS stuff on ebay, its going to take differnt cards. Right now, the only card I see is the 4 COP card. I notice there is nothing installed up top where there is some mounts for additional equipment. Any idea what this would take to install caller id?

I forgot to mention, the manuals I have are the DCS Compact Keyset user guide, and the DCS 50si Keyset user guide.

The user guides will be of little use to program the system. At the least you will need to locate both an installation and programming manual. They are rather expensive to purchase.

The slots above work with voice mail, trunk cards and extension cards (various flavors) and such.

Assuming the software is up to it, you will need a RAM2 card and a MISC2 card. But you should check to see that the software version will support CID; if not, you will have to replace the EPROMs with a more current version. Once installed you will have to program the trunks and stations to use CID. And make sure CID is on your CO(s) (talk to your carrier).

I recommend calling a Samsung tech in your area.

I wrote it down, when I had the hood open. The eprom had printed on it "DCS Compact (STA) Main V 2.4" and a hand written sticker says "Soft B 10500". I wasn't sure at the time, but I thought it might be the software version. Any idea of where to locate reasonably price manuals?

That software does not support Caller ID on the Compact. You will need at least v2.5 CID chips, and what Catfish said.

Have you tried the manuals link on top of this page?

Actually 2.4 will support caller id if it is caller id software. The way to tell is if there are 2 or 4 eproms for the software.2 is basic and 4 is call display software. But if your system has a Ram1 and no Misc 2 card you probably have basic software.
