help

Okay, so I stumbled across this forum and im thankfull I have. Hopefully you guys will be able to help me with my problem.

We have a SVM-400 system, with Samsung DS-24D handsets. All was working fine until one day the Voicemail stopped working. No explanation possible.

So my symptoms are as follows:

1) Unanswered calls no longer are answered by VM.
2) Pushing the programmed VM button on any Keypad calls extension 500, however this is reported as Main, and rings all the handsets in the house.
3) After a bit of playing, I came across extension 509. When I dial this number i get a message on the LCD of the 24D that reads:
"VMS Port is not available now"

I cannot work this out for the life of me :bang: so any support would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It sounds like the voicemail is down, have you restarted the system? Send me a PM and I can walk you through a couple of other steps.

The Voice Mail is definately down as CIT has said, that is why all calls to VM will ring at 500, because 500 is the catch all operator group. As you have stated, 509 is indeed the VM group on those systems. If a reset of the SVM-400 does not work you will have to contact your local service provider. I have found with these units a faulty component on the power supply that causes a 'No Operating System Found' error message and the unit will not start up.

This can be fixed most of the time onsite. I've seen this problem happen on lots of the svm-400's. You should have a Samsung tech. come in and pull the data off. Default it, and put the data back on.

I have had the same problem happen on probably 4 SVM-400's this year. It is probably fried and will need to be refurbished or get a new system put in with a new voicemail.

Thanks for all your responses guys. Its much appreciated. I have tried turning the system off and back on but nothing happens. Same problem. I have a feeling that it could be friend but just trying to see if thats the case. Im not a phone tech (IT, not phone) so this is my first phone system Im playing with (and enjoying it actually) but my tools are limited.

So yeah if there are things I can do it would be great to know.

An Ozzie IT guy playing phone tech, mmmmm. You are resetting the SVM-400? Why I ask is you say that you are turning the system off and then back on, the SVM-400 is only the voicemail, these units connect to the phone system via digital ports from the phone system, which in our part of the world are called the DCS 816 or DCS24 but they are one in the same.

The next thing to do is connect your laptop to the serial port at the bottom right of the SVM-400, I use ProComm Plus but any terminal program will do, HyperTerm works well too. Default settings 8N1 with baud 9600. Have a look and see if it is printing anything out in the terminal window.

NZ Tech.... Your are correct. I have underneath my desk a DCS24. I have tried switching both units of and on at the wall with no luck. I will have to try connecting via hyperterminal and see what happens.
