One of our customers purchased a building with a Samsung 816 plus and a Starmail (with 2 port 816 card). We are not Samsung certified and I need a little insight on whether or not it's worthwhile for the customer to have us reinstall this system. They want us to make a recommendation. What do you Samsung techs think? They system was installed in 1996. Do we need Samsung software to admin the voicemail and 816 Plus? Does this system support Caller ID? Does the software rev have a big impact on the worth of this system?

I am not a certified Samsung dealer, but I have installed many of the 816's. It will not provide CID, and that is the reason that I would not recommend reinstalling it. Most of my customers would like to migrate to a newer system because of the CID issue, but they keep the 816 because it is a workhorse.
The KSU can be administered through any display telephone. The KSU's and sets (all discontinued) are going down in price on Ebay, due to their obsolesence.

According the the manual, Samsung had it's own software for programming the voicemail. Does anyone have this software?

If it were me I would recommend they purchase something newer that you sell and/or are more comfortable working on.
You mentioned the 816 was installed in 1996. It is an analog key system that is now 10+ years old. It has been manufacturer discontinued and is no longer supported. Arthur is also correct no CID.
As a side note you don't need any software to install and administer the starmail. It can all be done through the telephone although it is rather cumbersome.

Try and sell an upgrade first but the 816 is a solid bit of kit.
As said in previous post CID is not available on the 816.

We still install the DCS816 and although we don't use the CID much in South Africa my main gripe with the 816 is that you are very limited as far as hardware configuration.
Find out from your customer if they expect growth in the future, if they do they might better off to upgrade.

Thanks for the input! We are providing the customer with a quote for a Comdial system. They didn't like the idea of not having CID. Also the VM transfer method looks clumsy.
