We are opening two stores with some traveling salesmen. Is there a way to hae a different number show up when you transfer a call to an outside line so they know it is a transfered call rather than the store just calling them?

To my knowledge the answer is no. I actually don't know if any other phone system has this capability since the outgoing caller ID for a line comes from the phone company not the PBX, unless you have a PRI but you wouldn't be able to pass it through to the outcalling trunk. What you could do though is this. If you have enough trunks you could take a couple of lines out of the outbound dialing group and dedicate them to out transferred calls. The salesmen could then program their cells with those numbers so they would know it's a customer and not some one from the store. You would need to put those lines in their own trunk group and set up the call transfer to use the trunk group for transferred calls. They could then identify whether it's a store or customer call.

We do it with a PRI all the time. You have to use calling party ID and some creative call forwarding of virtual extensions but it works well. It also depends on your provider some only allow you to send out DID numbers you actualy own others dont care so when we are doing it for real estate companys the agents like to see 9999999999 for a hot lead. This also works great for mutipal companies behind a PRI.

It's never worked for me though I have tried what you suggested FONEFXR. Interesting to here you some how got it to work. So if I understand correctly an incoming call being transferred out using another trunk shows the caller ID of the incoming call and not the outgoing trunk? Most PRI providers do block numbers that don't belong to you so this may not work in all scenarios.

Ben I have this working as well for one customer, I just send out the DID numbers but like FONEFXR stated it depends on the provider.

Ben you are correct you cant pass the incoming caller ID but you can make it send out a number of your choice to identify the call differently. I.E. company A or company B or emergency call kind of like the old days of sending 911 on the end of a page. Works real good for multiple companies behind a PRI as well so each can CID there own number on outgoing calls

So, can any individual extension have thier CID customized for any calls made outside the office? If so, how?

Not that i've ever tried it but as FONEFXR said if you have some virtual extensions set to forward to their mobiles then change the outbound clip (SEND CLIP NUMBER) to one of the company DDIs that isn't used for outbound calls it should work.

The answer is a simple CLID program for each extension. for example set CLID for 201 to 555-0000 ever call made by that ext will show 555-0000 on outbound. email me if you need help.

One of the distributors we use has his mailbox (SVMi) set to send the call through the dial block where it does a hook-flash transfer code and sends the call to his cell phone, where he sees the caller ID (he answers "Hey Catfish, how's the weather?"). The lines would have to be behind a Centrex to do this, though, and I've never tried it. If you're using a PRI then this won't work.
