As you all know we can only change the Ring plan for the system once so what’s the best way to have multiple departments all with their own night switching arrangements.
Here is what I have done but has limitations.
Send in dial xxxx 3030 to ext 3099 not group
Programmed on ext 3099 a CF clear Key (Problem with this is the extension can only receive one call at a time the second call gets busy)
Programmed on ext 3099 a CF all Key to grp 3030 that has some extensions in it. (rings other extensions in group but doesn’t ring 3099)
Programmed on ext 3099 a CF busy no ans Key with timer of 1 sec to 3060 (voicemail this works fine as expected)
The only work around I can see is to have the calls arrive at another unused extension whether it be virtual or physical with the forwarding is done at this extension. However I can’t see how the user could set the forwards a the virtual extension easily.

Assuming it a compact2 i think they can be upgraded to a 100 with a few new cards giving you the 5 ring plans to work with.
I've never tried but i think the voicemail can also do this. I've always ending up doing as you did with kits that have only Day and Night routing.

By what Jettech has said, he already has a OS7000. I too have wondered how to change the different modes on the voicemail. The only way to do this is via the "Mode" menu. Weather or not this can be assigned to a calender to turn it on/off at preset times.

We've got a few customers with different departments that close at different times. We've used ring plans to send department DID calls to different station groups that forward into voicemail, using SVMI station forwarding into a specific menu that plays the night greeting for that department (even tho the SVMI shows day service because the main company RP is programmed for day). Another way you could handle some of that is to use a UCD that rings only 1 phone, and put an IG key on the phone, so they can log out. Then have it overflow all logged out to the SVMI, and again use svmi station forwarding to send the call from that group to a specific menu playing the night greeting.

We like to use the forwarding through station groups to pick up a differnt Forward Station ID in the voicemail as well. But we like to point the DID for that paticular department to a analog port were we put a red 2500 desk set on it set the preset FNA to forward to the night group desired and the timer to one second then set the DND to forward to the day group desired. Now the custmer goes to the red phone and dials 401 for day mode and 400 for night and when its in night it has one slight ring as a reminder.

I have made one modification now which fixes all my worries thanks to a suggestion from a mate.
I have turned on call wait in the DID table for this indial. Which means the handset can take as many calls as call keys assigned. So now in the normal un forwarded mode the handset can take 4 calls with my 4 assigned call keys.
This seems to be a good solution as I didnt need an extra handset or complicated voicemail programming to give the total control as they are open odd hours sometimes.
I have the larger part of the orginisation using the ring plan's as they have mulitple consoles handling large amounts of calls.
