Hi, I've just bought a second hand SVM-400 and I'm trying to install it on my DCS 816 (616 in the US I believe). I have the installation manual, administration manual & user guide. I've connected the 4 DLI ports to the last 4 DLI ports on the DCS816 as recommended elsewhere on the forum.
Now what? If I dial 209, 211 or 212 internally it shows: Plug out. If I dial 210 it says 'VMS port is not available now'.
I guess I'm just asking where the problem's likely to be. -do I have to go through an installation procedure in the DCS816? -is it the SVM-400 might be faulty? -should I check the leads I've used (they are quite old)
Thanks for any help and advice in advance
Spencer

Hi, I haven't heard from bubble yet, any chance someone else can offer some advice?
I've looked at MMC 207 but it scrolls between 213-216 (selecting normal or VMAA port).
Should I change the SVM-400 so it's connected to the 4 SLI ports rather than the last 4 DLI one, then use MMC 207 to change them to VMAA ports or am I going on completely the wrong lines?
Thanks for any help & advice in advance

No, DO NOT connect the SLI ports, the SVM400 uses DLI ports only. I would connect my laptop to the serial port at bottom right to see if the SVM400 is booting up ok, you can use HyperTerm that is on almost every windows pc. The settings for HyperTerm are 8,N,1 and depending on the version can be 9600 or 38400 baud, try that and let me know how you get on.

I've got the USB RS232 lead on order so it might be a few days but then I'll see what it says. Thanks you!

Wow. Okay, so I've been :bang: for 3 hours this morning and me head's a bit sore. Every attempt I tried every combination of rates 9600/38400, flow control hardware/none/XoffXon Attempt1: my laptop, usb to RS232male, female/female adapter into SVM400. Connected through to blank screen, same result with lead disconnected. Attempt2: Same but using virtual com driver, attempted through Com4 (set to find first available USB device). Same result as attempt1 Attempt3: Another laptop that has serial port. Use female/female adapter so it was connecting directly through (is that okay or should I buy a null modem lead?). Result: Another device is using this telephony device (or similar wording). Same result with it disconnected. Found another thread here discussing this, shut down everything else on the laptop but same results. I don't know how many hours I've now spent on this system. We're only a small start up company and having successfully installed the DCS 816 system I was given I thought adding an answer system would be the easier part I'm doing it when we're not busy and can't really afford an engineer to come out. Has anyone got any further suggestions or should I give up? Thanks Spencer

It's working Thanks a lot to Samsung Tech NZ for all his patience, would've been lost without that help.
