Afternoon all.
I have an iDCS 500 running Officeserv OS 2.37
I have an MCP2 card as the processor.
Can this system use the Samsung IP handsets natively or does it need an MGI card installed?
If it can use the IP handsets natively, has anyone ever connected them offsite on a corporate VPN?
Thanks

You will need an MGI card and connecting over a VPN is fine.

I just got some ITP-5114D and I thought they had a built in VPN client (as per some online info I found)
Do they just need a firmware upgrade for that function?

There is no VPN client on the phones.
If you want to use a VPN, you will need to create a VPN tunnel between the routers.

The ITP-51xx support VLANs with firmware >=3.18, maybe that's what you are thinking of.
The new SMT-i3100/SMT-i5220/SMT-i5242 handsets do have a VPN client, but these only work with OS7000 systems.

I have VPN capabilities on the routers, I was not thinking of VLANS.. But thanks.
I read on numerous websites these specs for the ITP-5114D
Specification: 14 Button IP Terminal 2 x 16 LCD display VPN, PPTP enabled Dual port 10/100 Ethernet layer 2 switch Voice tagging 802.3AF Power over Ethernet G711, G729, G723.1 codecs DHCP or static IP Navigation wheel Five fixed function keys 14 Soft keys 3 Context sensitive function keys Fully hands free
I assume that there is VPN in a late version of the firmware or people are just advertising incorrectly.

Adrian,
Your software is very old. I suggest you get a Sydney dealer to help you upgrade to the latest version. (2.75b). A MGI card is also required.
Remote ITP phones will connect to the systems public IP address,(when the relevant ports are opened) and can be connected behind a NAT.
So a VPN is not required to connect a remote phone. Of course VPN's can be used if required, but the phone does not contain a dedicated VPN client.

I've already engaged a sydney samsung dealer, they are upgrading the MCP2 to 2.75b and supplying an MGI16 card. The only issue I am contemplating is that after the 2.75b our old PRI card which has been tested and works fine in the iDCS500 on system software 2.37 may stop working. I have located a TEPRI card second hand should this be the case.

oh and good thinking, I didnt think of opening ports and giving it a public IP address.. stare at a rock long enough and it will just stare back. I will just do this, makes a lot more sense and won't waste time or effort.

The Tepri should be upgradable as well. But even if it is not ubgraded it will not stop working.
