Hi I don't do much with samsung(not since the old skp816).I defected many years ago to Panasonic.

I have a customer, who has a Samsung in his office and wants to link it to a new office, so i am looking at using a Samsung to make the link easier.

Talking to a Samsung supplier, he is saying I don't need a VPN set up on the broadband to link the systems. now this does not sound right to me,so before I price the system I need to know if I do or not.

It is true that a VPN is not required. However, if you have the option, you may have better call quality over a VPN. The only thing that the Samsung requires is a public IP on either side if a VPN is not being used.

What Samsung system do they have now?

Thanks for your reply. I did think it would require its own IP on each end, and I presume it would have to be in front of any firewall.

I didn't want to state it has to have a VPN, and someone comes in and say it doesn't.but I think I will recommend one is in place.

I presume any system with a fixed IP address will work, but Panasonic say you need one, I suppose a VPN is more reliable and if the system link goes down, it is the VPN and not the systems fault

His current system has to be upgraded as well, but the savings will be in using the 15-16 telephones he has on the old unit

From my understanding of the Panasonic, you need a vpn for system networking and for IP phone networking. With the Samsung this is not the case. What system are they curently using now and what system are you going to add?
