Hi,

Following the advise (at the time) of the guy who originally installed our OS100 system, for two sites we setup the phone system with Netgear routers (DG834....nothing special) but it has been playing up recently. Every morning when I get in the IP phones have to be rebooted in order to work again. Im guessing it has something to do with the router.
Never been much in to cisco equipment, had a few reliability issues in the past. Love Draytek's though 6/10 networks I ever setup were with these.
Anyway considering upgrading the router and wondering if you guys think This would be any good, Vigor 2710. It does have a compatible codecs with our system (G.729ab).

Does anyone have experiance with pros and cons of drayteks used for VOIP?

Cheers.

Yep.

I have the DG834 in our own office running the SIP trunks on a stand alone ADSL service, it works well, but lately has needed to be rebooted once a week or so as it simply freezes (no internet, not able to log into router etc, though all the lights are on normal - but not flashing).

I also have many customers running on Draytec 2700VG's for providing 2 VoIP lines into the system as PSTN lines, work great, and currently am installing the 2700G on the newer systems using SIP trunks. Have had no problems with either setup, the SIP trunks are normally sharing the customers ADSL service for data as well and the QoS settings seem to work very well.

The codecs the system is using for SIP trunks is irrelevant to the modem, as I am just telling it to use the phone systems IP address for priority rather than the codecs. In fact the modem wouldnt even know what codecs are being used, its simply data to it.

Cheers, Dave.

I've installed a dozen or so Draytek 2600/2600plus/2800s, the majority having some sort of VOIP running over them, and those without any problems.

I used to use Netgear kit when it only came in metal cases, the plastic cased stuff just seems more flimsy and runs hot.

Just to follow up on this, this router is highly recomended. 3 Weeks running hasnt lost a signal once, even when you have to restart the phone cards it connects straight away.
