Hey guys, I know this is been up alot before, but I am out of options. I have a 7200 that is setup to go to DynDNS (some hosted outgoing email provider). They only use the username and password to authenticate, I keep getting a 501 reply, (which i understand as the the remote end not authenticating me). I have also used several different ports with the same result. I used Samsungs test SMTP account, and it worked great. The guys at DynDNS cannot watch the server in real time, like samsung does. All they keep telling me is that they do not see any errors on their end. I asked them "If I cannot get authenicated on your server, do you get the failed attempt from me on their logs, they said no" Anyone ever use this company before. Thanks in advance for any help with this.

I'm assuming this DynDNS is giving you a static pub ip address for the smtp? Have you tried not using a username and password, but instead only configuring the smtp server address? I was having similar issues trying to authenticate to a customer's ISP, but instead found success in not tryin to use a username or password.

501 is 'Syntax error in parameters or arguments' for SMTP connections, you might have to resort to looking at the network traffic with wireshark or similar to see what's going on.

DynDns is a dynamic DNS host, I didnt know that they hosted mail accounts. Doesnt the ISP you are connected to have an SMTP server? Thats all we use down here. For example, if my ISP is TPG, then I use smtp.tpg.com.au (or usually the actual IP adress), if its Westnet for the ISP, then its smtp.westnet.com.au (or the IP adress) etc.
Can you send email from your laptop when connected to this network?

I had a differnet scenerio and it was on a 7100 but none the less I was getting 501 errors yesterday and it ended up that port 443 on the router was not not forwarded.

Sending email out has nothing to do with a port being open for inbound traffic.

I have used main enable, the standard version is free, i used it to get around the email gateway bugs in the 7030 and 7100 where the smtp server isnt on the same lan network as the system.

I have used Sleepwalker (for the same reason as nameless) and it ran fine in several sites until we got a later software version that now rectified the promblem.
