O.K. I have had some experience with key systems- so I am turning to the only experts that I can access. Thanks to all in advance. I have inherited a Comdial DX-80 4x8 system with 5 stations. Only 1 location will ring. I have increased the ringing volume at each location and when a call comes in only 1 station rings. I have been told that a port (DX-80) is bad because Line 1 will not work on any set either. Only two lines come in from phone company. Hope I can resolve this and learn as much as I can.

Sounds like the other sets aren't programmed to ring. Do you have a program/maintenance manual for this model?

No this is my first endeavor with Comdial, but I plan on making a career out of it, so manuals are a necessity. Any ideas on worthwhile training programs?

Dave's right about the programming. I'd also check the mod plugs for the lines on the circuit board, the irst female port is for power failure, the second opening is line 1 - also a bad crimp on the male end could be the trouble. Some simple troubleshooting should sort that out.

I have a programming manual but what is the best way to go about setting ring? I replaced the male jacks and made sure well-seated. Have gone through the values and ext.111 seems as if it is not default.

Wow. Things that make ya wonder. Here's a DX-80 default numbering page https://public.carl.airpost.net/comdial/DX-80_Default_Numbering_pg103.pdf and 111 isn't a default number. When you get a manual, review UCD, ring all, and 410. You didn't pick a severly friendly system to learn as your first experience :-) Carl

111 is a valid ext. number. If it is not at default someone programed it different. only 101 rings with system at default.

Mark, just in passing in a 4x8 system with 5 extensions 111 is NOT a valid default extension number. My guess is it would be on the expansion card :-)

However, since my DX-80 came out of the box as a 4x8x4 (with the 4 being SLT's) the "programmer* may have numbered the 4 SLT ports away from the default 149-152 to 109-112. You'll be able to hear the ring relay clicking when you get the right numbers.
I knwe there was a reason to RTFM
