We are having trouble connecting our phone system to our speaker amp. We are able to get it to page through the amp on a background music port but when we hook up to the system tip & ring we get nothing. Valcom said that we needed to hook up a something to a relay to open and close the port?? Any suggestions?

Use the external page port on the MISC port (can't remember which pair on which MISC port off the top of my head, RTFM in doubt)

As I look at the 500 diagram, Pins 3 and 6 of Misc. 2 go to the paging amplifier.
Easy way to test is to hook your tone generator to pins 3 and 6 and see if you get a loud tone over your speaker.
You have to put 3601 as a member of page zone 5 in MMC 605.
You should be able to dial 555 (using the handset) and page or put a button [Page5] on the phone.
