Hi All
I've been asked by a client if its possible to get an iphone to connect to a 7100 like the softphone software or the remote IP desk phone.
Has anyone done anything similar?
Thanks
Jonathan

You can get a free Sip one called 3CX for the iphone but you will have to get a sip licence which costs. It will use different ports also 5060 and possible some more voice ports unless there using a VPN of course also the Iphone has a VPN facility but have never used it.

Is this to be used as an internal extn - e.g via wifi or as an external device?
I think the best solution is as follows:
Wait to later in the year when v4.6x software is released. Later in the roadmap (and in advanced stages of development - ive seen screenshots!) there is a softphone client for the Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S mobiles. I'd recommend using this as I believe the plan is for it to make a data connection back to the PBX, let the PBX dial the number you want and the PBX will put the call through to the device - thus giving full presence information of the device to all users of the PBX.
I believe the plan is to roll this out over the Android OS and there are no immediate plans for apple OS to be supported.
May get you thinking for the long term, supported, solution.

Just thinking, do you specifically want an app on the Iphone or can you just use the Officeserv Connect (Mobex) Executive feature?

I've used the 3CX sip app on my droid, with a sip extension license on our 7100. Works great over wireless networks, not so great over 3G. I'm waiting for 4g deployment to cover more area before I start playing with this again.

My sales manager uses Bria with the G.729a codec on his ipad via 3g and it works fine.
These cost (~$20 in total) from the app store. Plus you need a SIP extension license.

Yeah, I guess I'm really complaining about full 3G coverage. It did work on 3G, I just have found Verizon coverage to be way over stated. I roam all over and I freqently don't have full speed 3G data on my phone.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll give mobex a try but I suspect they are wanting to use the phones abroad and not pay roaming. I know the system has an mgi licence so I could just get a sip licence and give that a go as well.
Am I right in thinking that I don't need an external VoIP provider to connect a sip phone to the system and dial out over their isdn lines.
Is there anyway of getting the incoming line information on a sip phone? This client runs two different businesses so would need to know how to answer the call. I doubt this is a sip function though.

I have never rung my sip phones from external to see what DID info comes through.

These are the supported features for SIP Extns:
Registration Basic call – answer and receive CLI Hold/Resume MOH Consultation Hold Transfer (supervised or unsupervised) Call waiting Call Pickup Call Forward (All, busy, no answer, busy/no answer) Conference Call Park (System hold) DND Call Back Voicemail Indication
Just remember this doesn't mean the actual device itself supports the feature - always test first

Thanks for all the sip info.
I've had great success setting up mobex. It appears that the isdn provider doesn't pass the cli information to the mobile phone sadly so the user sees the office number.
I am waiting for the sip licence to arrive tomorrow to see if that passes the cli.

There are some settings in the system todo with Mobex CLI. Try playing with these maybe?
I know the carriers here won't do it

i've tried the various combinations in the mobex cli but they all still send the office line number not the incoming CLI.
I received the SIP licence today and have it set up doing internal calls. Can't for the life of me think how I get it into a station group. I've missed an important setting somewhere. Any suggestions?
Tomorrow's challenge - get it working externally. I've already opened port 5060

Sip stations can't be a member of an unconditional ring group (stupid design).
However if you pair a sip station with a virtual sli and then put the virtual sli in the ring group then it will work.

I have tried as a SIP extension for I Phone with:
Acrobits Groundwire (Another variant of Acrobits) One of the above with purchased G729 codec can’t remember which one BRIA Wee Phone SIP
They are ok on WIFI but on 3G / Public I had all sorts of issues so I gave up on messing with them… quite often when I updated the apps I had to tweak the settings to get them to re-register correctly.
You can get them to work but how well and for how long… I don’t think they should be unleashed on customers.
Nameless I found that unconditional ring thing with a small office were they wanted the SIP polycom in the main ring group. The need wasn’t that great so I left it out.

So I've had reasonable success with running 3CX and also Bria, however it seems that after a little while the sip extn gets dropped and then can't reconnect. I get a "busy here" response from the 7100 and the only only way to clear it is to reboot the system.
Has anyone else seen this and found a fix. I can't seem to find any repeatable cause but suspect it's to do with the iPhone sleeping although Bria is set to run in the background and obviously does as it still receives calls.

I have seen sip extensions appear to lock up, but this was with 4.30 software and doing conference calls via a polycom ip6000.
They will clear but it take 15mins or so from memory
