I think you mean is 4 wire and 4 wire E&M. In either case your just tie the transmit and receive together, you don't need the signaling leads. Not sure by your post as to what you're trying to do though.

I inherited some older style xconnections namely in addition to the 4 wires...
T R E M
I also have some 6 pr set conns.
TT T1 RR R1 E M

I think the above concept is 2 wire audio vs 4 wire audio along with the E&M pr.
I will try out what you suggest for both wire arrangements and let you know how it turns out.
Thanks for the help Bill...

Just what is it you are trying to do? Your first senerio, tip ring, e&m you can't loop. What are you using a 2 wire E&M for?

Bill,

Sorry for delay, was on the road for a couple of weeks. Basically what you suggested worked for me. The far end has an older mux setup 20+ yrs and the tech there very reluctant to touch it - I can't blame him. Reason I attempted loopback was to help isolate problem (no dt). I thought my side was good, but the cust was born in MO and wanted proof. Turned out after all was said and done that problem was with the remote.
Thanks for the help.
