Well, what is it???? Just curious, never heard of Cat 6e. We rarely sell Cat 6 since Cat 5e will do gigabit.

Cat6e is a marketing term adopted by various manufacturers who sell products that exceed the minimum requirements of the Category 6 standard. It's meaningless.

The RFPs and drafts are for what is being called "Category 6 Augmented", or Cat6a. The goal of the new standard (or is it an addendum to the current one?) is to define the requirements for 10Gig performance up to 100 meters.

Some manufacturers are already marketing "Cat6e" end-to-end solutions that can do 10Gig @ 100m. The new standard will allow mixing of different manufacturers' "Cat6a" rated components to achieve 10Gig @ 100m.

That was what it looked like, a marketing ploy to confuse would be bidders! This consultant is doing everything he can to narrow down bidders to whom he wants to use. the rfp still says "DRAFT" on every page with lots of things up in the air, bid due Dec 1!
