Is there any code requirement(s) spec's for when and how you can use PVC vs. metal conduit?
Office space is built out inside a big warehouse. The second floor is divided/supported by a huge metal I beam so I have to run the cabling up on the outside (of the office space which is in the warehouse not outdoors) Is there any regulation on having to use metal vs gray pvc conduit?

As long as it is not subject to physical damage or temperature extremes, RNC can be used pretty much anywhere EMT can be used (plus a couple where EMT cannot).
The obvious exception is within a plenum, but you already knew that.

well is it getting inspected? Some towns require it to be metal and some don't. Some don't but sometimes the inspector can be a really (expletive here) and say that he will fail it if it's not metal. Best best is to make a random call to the building department of the town where your working and ask. Were doing a job right now and well all I can say is the electrical inspector is (expletive here).
