I have a large Cat6 project with over 280 cables running under a computer room raised floor. We'll use the clamps designed for the raised floor legs (square), but I have a concern about using standard bridal rings.

I think with the amount of cables (280 in two bundles) the ones on the bottom will be pinched at the ring by the weight of the bundle.

Can anyone recommend a better support ring/clamp for this? I have seen bridal rings with a 'shoe' to lessen the pressure point, but do not know who makes them or a part number.

CADDY-fasteners have some cables supports that attach to the square legs of a raised floor. They have a J- hook that attaches to the legs and you just lay the cable in the hook. The J shaped hooks give you more surface to support the wires; with rings the weigh of the wires will definetly pinch the bottom wires.

just a quick question re your installation!
I've been reading alot about the specs re cat6+
rating alien cross talk. What are you doing to addres this? If I understand the specs correctly you are not to bundle more than 30 runs together and all runs need to be less than 55m!

CableCat 425 or traditional tray. 140 cables per is pushing it for even the largest J-hooks. Erico has some interesting products that are designed to provide "tray-like" support, but I haven't used them yet.

You might try J hooks one above the other on raised flr. legs. Do bottom run first then clamp another hook right above it and fill. On third run use opposite side of leg and do same again , about 70 cables per hook-----------John

I haven't seen the 30 cables max number yet, do you have an online source for that? I've been trying to dig something up but I haven't found anything related to cable bundle size.

The 55m limitation is only for 10Gig over Cat6. If you're using Cat6a (augmented Cat6) then you're still good up to 100m.

CI&M reported in the last issue that the limitation has been reduced to 37 meters for 10Gb over Cat6. Apparently, this was after testing by the IEEE working group.

Will be part of the recommendations in TIA/EIA TSB-155.

I can't remember seeing anything about cable bundling either...

I went through the Sytimax design and engineering course a few months back, they made it seem that the bundling and lengths varied among manufacturers. Of course (coming from them) their design is the most flexible. Theirs could be grouped together with no alien cross talk. I can't remember if it could be combed or not though, I'm thinking yes.

Back to the original question: I agree that the J-hooks are the way to go.
