It is made to mount on top of a tower max type surge protector.
But it has a ground bar along the back of it that you can connect to at the top. You just can't see it in the picture.

I've seen them, but never used one. There is a ground lug on them. In my opinion there are cheaper and better units out there. I like the ones that use a split 66 block myself.

I'm with JB. Lose 1 pair protector on the Lucent unit and you change the whole cotton-pickin' thing. Lose 1 pair protector on a 66 split block type system and you change that protector. The Lucent device is pretty $$ to keep a spare around that only replaces 1 unit. The 66 block devices cost ?$5?. Keep 5 or 10 around as spares and your covered for a 100 customers.

Yeah, but they are an ITW (Panamax) product and they will replace it if it fails. Of course, you have to protect everything within their installation guidelines but they aren't very difficult to accommodate.
Regardless, I agree that pair-for-pair protection is the only logical way to go.

https://www.itwlinx.com/products/pdf/MCO25.pdf That ebay item appears to quite old (Lucent). Unless it is unused I would stay away from it since there is no way to know if the protectors are working. These things become useless after a few hits. And there is no way to be sure that it is unused, is there. -Hal

I have some new ones in the box that weren't made very long ago still bearing the Lucent name. Remember that Lucent still exists, they just make large switches now (as in CO), not Partners. I don't know what will happen to the name now that the Alcatel thing is in the works, but that really doesn't matter. Why they would need these protectors today is beyond me, but maybe it has to do with perhaps a term agreement with ITW/Panamax? Just a guess.

I do know that the original Panamax (before it was bought out by ITW) private branded what is now the Towermax line for AT&T and later Lucent. Everything had the AT&T or Lucent logo and there were other subtle differences in packaging also. I believe this ended with Avaya or possibly the ITW buyout, I have never seen any Avaya branded. However you will note that in the link I gave above ITW Linx does say that the item is Avaya approved.
If Ed has some still in the box that's good enough for me. Those should be fine.
