I have a residential customer who needs a 250 foot run of data to a 'pool house'. Is there a building entrance protector rated for cat5 out there somewhere?

The easiest to work with is the ITW Linx stuff. Just make sure you ground it good.

another vote for fiber
the fact thats its residential and going to a pool house really doesn't matter where lightning is concerned
If you stay with cooper , be sure to use PRIMARY and SECONDARY protection or protectors rated for both
(the ones linked to are designed to be used behind primary protectors)
(I see nowthey are listed as primary and secondary )

Fiber would require media conversion or a switch equipped with fiber adapters.
