Has anyone used the fiber light source and loss testers , such as the Noyes or Owl types? I'm looking for a quick way to tell that my ends are ok without using an OTDR. Something more than just shining a flashlight through it.

I've use a Hobbes infared fiber tester pro. It's cost is only about $100. The one I have is for multi mode only and will switch between 850nm and 1300nm and measures the the light level in db.

I own several models of the Owl sets... Never had a problem with them, and they come with a NIST traceable calibration record.
I highly recomend them, as they aren't as pricey as fluke models, yet perform just as well!
