Does anyone still use these on a new installation? I have to submit a bid for what the EC should of done. I know the owner is looking to save $$ because the terminations should of been included in the EC's bid.

These would be going into the units of a low income apartment complex. I don't see why it would be an issue. However I'd like some other opinions as I always use 110 style terminations on wall plates

I still use them, and I even did so on Cat 5e cable :-). It was a motel job where the owner didn't need those "fancy insulation displacement" jacks.

I cleaned out my warehouse and Graybar's local stock to get them. As I sat there screwing, I realized how far we've come. It takes about twice the time to terminate those jacks.

Still use them for voice only jobs. If it is v & d, then I use the snap-in plates and IDC connectors. With the cost, it saves money on material, time is about the same, hate IDC on wall phones, always come loose. Stainless steel with screws so when they slam down the handset the plate/outlet is still serviceable even if the phone isn't. wink

And yet, we all know that slamming down the handset sends a nice, polite, 'click' to the other end! To make the point, you have to bang the transmitter end of the handset on the desk, wall, floor, whatever, several times, then hangup in the normal, gentle method. smile John C. (Not Garand)

These are used for new installations around here all the time. Provided, as Ken says, it's for voice only.

Paul, I have a phone from the early 50's that was in my dad's house. NO child could hang that handset up gently! It weighs more than 2 of todays' phones! I'll bet the 'gentle' comment was so they wouldn't 'cwush their widdle fingas'. smile John C. (Not Garand)

We use them almost exclusively for voice, but only Suttle brand. You'll also note that all Bell companies and most independent telcos use this brand as well. None of the cheap import stuff that EC's use. YES, Leviton, P&S, and Cooper (Eagle) is imported stuff.

There aren't any data-grade (A.K.A. CAT5 and up devices) that use screw terminals made.

Thanks for the input! Yes, this is for voice only. The EC left out terminations from their bid. As well as forgot to follow the specs on the scope of work...
