I have no problem toning cables back to a patch panel IF the other end is NOT plugged into a hub/router/switch. If it is, I simply use my Tempo ATL8R, which can blink the port it is connected to.

get a intelitone and probe from fluke networks. tones analog and digital even when hot. has a link light to tell you what service is on there(phone,data).also has a wiremap tester. no spliting of pairs and is a key tool in troubleshooting. saves alot of time and only $XXX.XX.
most PG=phone geeks do not understand how easy it is when you have the rigth tools and how to use them.

Test-um have a very good repair center that can turn testers around in about a week. Test-um is now owned by JDSU and they seem to work well with me. I have sent testers to them to repair a lot lately and they have provided great survice. Just an FYI
