Any suggestions for attaching a telepole to ceiling in an open area? Furniture guy is providing pole and has no clue on what to do.

I'm assuming you're mounting this in a suspended ceiling. Wiremold brand tele-power poles come with clips that attach to the T-bar. They also have tabs that bend over to grip the ceiling tile. This will usually be sufficient. If you think that's not enough......

I installed a batch a few years ago in a government building and the spec's for everything was a lot more serious. We installed 3/8" threaded rod from the clip to the poured ceiling above. The clip came with a notch that took the 3/8" rod and we used double expansion anchors in the ceiling. You could also have anchored the rod to beam clamps. It was a little bit of extra work but when we were done, the building could have fallen down and the poles wouldn't have gone anywhere.

When you mentioned "furniture guy", I assume that we are talking about modular furniture? If so, and if the pole is firmly attached to a junction in the modular furniture, you should be just fine. Since power poles come in 12' and 15' lengths, you might want to explore some of the aforementioned upper attachments. Otherwise, five feet of modular furniture wall will be more than enough to secure the pole.

If you look on page 2 "Typical Installation" check out box 3. They show the clip that attaches to the T-Bar. If you look closely, there's a notch in the top of the clip. If I remember correctly, that's where we attached the threaded rod. Washers, lock washers and nuts on top & bottom. Very solid.

But as Ed pointed out - if you're clamped onto 5' of furniture, you won't need much else. The clamps on top should do it.

No I'm doing the wiremold to the modular furniture/telepoles. Nothing at all above, solid concrete ceiling. Furniture guy also said telepole was non-metallic which kind of surprised me, with no division for power/low-voltage which further surprised me.

When you say you're running the cable in wiremold to the furniture do you mean in 2600 Pancake molding across the floor? Or are you running across the ceiling? And if so how? Cable tray? Conduit? J-Hooks? Sky hooks?

And the pole is a single cell plastic tube. I'm sure you're not planning on running your comm cables through a pole that the electrician is running power through.

Maybe I'm slow, but I'm not totally visualizing this job. Could you please describe the cabling layout in a little more detail please.

Sam makes a good point how is power getting there or is it already there and your just adding voice and data ?

Sounds like power will be in mc cable in the pole with the cabling

If you have never even seen this "telepole" (they are normally refered to as "power poles") that will be used, don't you think it would be a good idea to find out who makes it so you (or we) can check on the installation accessories and options?

Also who makes the furniture? Are these just partitions? The cables are normally run in the kick space. I assume you are running raceway on the ceiling?
