Hey yall...I'm back

I know it's different all over the place in regards to inspections.

My contractors do boy is bothering me about some low voltage that I have in the ceiling area. It isn't terminated. It's just coiled up on a J-hook on the wall and zip tied. It's a hard ceiling that will be hard to reach in the future but not impossible. I'm wanting to leave it there so I can add a sound system in the future. If I have to cut a hole big enough for a speaker I can definitely cut the ziptie and pull the cable to the speaker.

Any thing against "abondoning" this new 18/2 cable?

Thanks guys and gals

If I have to cut a hole in a hard ceiling

As long as you have the proper cable and it is supported correctly you can tag it for future use and be with-in code. Unless of course there would be some local code against it.

Here\'s the code

Here\'s the complete article.

Awesome....

Who knows about the local codes. I'm beginning to think the local code means whatever the inspector wants.

ding ding ding!

Good answer. I guess that's too true in FL. In our area, you start with the electrical inspector in the building permits department for the county. Ours is fairly easy, because our county is the second largest in the area and it does the inspections for the adjacent counties.
They're pretty lenient, maybe because after 25 years there are few surprises.

I've heard in FL you have to follow county and city rules. Probably with permits along the way.

Who knows about the local codes...

Ummm, you should and you should know where to look for them. Also the permitting, licensing and insurance requirements.

This, assuming of course that you WANT to do this kind of work and give your customers what they are paying for.

That was a bit of sarcasm Hal. I'm researching the local codes. Just thought I'd ask here and everywhere. I wouldn't be asking questions if I didn't care would I?

I would think explaining the concept of future use would be enough for them to not make a big deal about it but then some people just want to make a fuss about anything.

Well, I'm glad to see that you are conscientious about doing a job the right way. If you want to be a legitimate business, codes and regulations are something you have to live with whether you agree with them or not.

I think most of the "resistance" to this concept comes from people who have no clue about the building or construction industry, want to install wiring and can't understand why they can't just do whatever they want.

I 99.9% agree with that wink

I have one issue with one requirement for a new cabling job permit, which I would guess is local only since I haven't ran into it everywhere.

I don't understand a city making the cost of a permit based on square footage, instead of amount of physical cabling.

Just for example, we paid 5 times as much for a permit in a warehouse operation, with 6 dual drops as we did for a doctors office, which had 40+ dual drops. The difference... about 10,000 square feet.

----

Other than that, I agree completely with -Hal.

People, who are ignorant of the facts can't seem to comprehend why the rules can't be bent and I can't make them understand either.

Sorry for leading the thread slightly off-topic...
