We will be installing a new dispatch console at the fire hall shortly, It will be connected to 5 radios via lease lines (2pr each), has the capability to be connected to POTS among other functions.

I want to run 25pr from a new 66M on the phone board, making the required connections there, to our radio room and and terminate on a 66M block under the counter to facilitate the necessary connections to the console.

Is it worth it to order the 25pr cable or should I just run 6 runs of cat5 (which I have, but just seems messy) If I order the cable I may as well go with Cat5e IMO, but I'm soliciting advice here.

Any advice or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks. Jeff

If you do go with 25 pair, there is no reason to use CAT5/5e. I don't see any reason not to use the cable (CAT5) you have currently, if you're on a budget. What kind of distance are you looking at?

My suggestion is 25 pair.

Yeah, get 110' of 25 pair and you'll have it done right and done once.

Also, is this being mounted in any way underneath the desk? (i.e. - metal box, plywood, etc.)

You never want to use CAT5 for anything except computers!

Hal is absolutely right!
Cat5 for digital and/or analog phones is a waste of money and time which is also money.

I don't know how much 25pr CAT5 is but I do know how much CAT3 is. I cringe at the thought of how much money you would be throwing away.
