Hello,
i was working on a house with a daisy chained phone loop in the living room with 3 jacks with a two jack faceplate. The top jack connected to the green & red pair, bottom vonnected to the back &yellow pair. Downstairs in basement, I could tone out the B & Y pair, but could not find the Green & red when put the toner on it. The B & Y has dial tone, but the G&R does not. I ran a designated wire to the first jack & livened up the G&R pair....now when I did this I got a dial tone that turned into a busy signal as if the phone was off the hook. Could anyone tell me what causes the busy signal & what the issue might be. thanks

You have a short or ring ground. If the dial tone on the B/Y also went bad it may be crossed.

Since this house is loop wired you want to open up all the other wall plates and check them out. Sometimes the wiring fault isn't necessarily in the jack you have opened up.
