I've rescued several old WE protectors from customers' houses while upgrading wiring. I came across some today that had the carbons removed.
Anybody have some they can send me so I can reuse them?

Why? As is why not install newer models and for that matter why not let have Bell, Verizon or whoever do their job?

The only time I install protectors is if I'm doing a OPX. Other than that, not my job.

These houses have NIDs installed outside but they always leave the old protectors inside. I guess I want them intact for my museum more than anything else laugh

Sorry, Jeff. We just don't see many of those around these parts anymore, mostly due to the fact that we do very little residential work. Even then, it is usually in modern homes. Those things don't show up much in businesses around here either. I'll ask my techs to keep an eye out for them for you in their travels.

I checked with some of the phone guys here since those carbons were also used on the old frames and no luck. All thrown out many moons ago.

Any idea why they took the carbons out when they put the NIDs in outside? Would more protection be a bad thing?

So the carbons didn't operate and cause a problem for the customer. The protector was used for nothing more than a terminal block when the NID was installed.

I'll have to look, but I think that I only have one set of carbon protectors.

I forget, but don't the carbon protectors disturb xDSL signal? I wouldn't say necessarily destroy, but I had a protector with gas tube(if I remember correctly), and carbon protectors that didn't work so swell on the signal.

Here are some pictures of what I have, for my "museum" of sorts:

Standard binding post protector I usually see if no Sylvania/TII, etc demarc is installed:

Here's a protector that I've only found once.. If anyone remembers, are the second protectors gas tube? I think this is a WE protector installed in 1977 (I forget what the sticker says):
